Will USPS Lose Your Packages?
I have done so much research and calling that I am just tired. A package was shipped to me via USPS, and was said to have delivered but was not. I called and called and spoke to everyone only to finally file a complaint with the Post Master General. My package was only worth about $40, but money is not the issue. To top everything off the local Post Master proceeds to tell me that she cannot ask the delivery driver, because he no longer works for them. Now this is only 2 weeks after my package came up missing. Even with insurance if your package says delivered then there seems to be nothing you can do. You can read some various complaints at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/delivery/usps_lost_mail.html .
While on my search for my package, I found out that they have auctions for packages that have not been delivered due to one reason or the other. Now I am left wondering if my package is going to be resold to someone else, which I will never get the money for. USPS, UPS and FedEx have auctions for packages, so I thought I would pass on this information as to where to find it. Check out this page of answers.google.com http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=351903
From the information that I have been able to gather what follows is the percentages of packages lost through all 3 major carriers. Now keep in mind that they most of the time do not add in those percentages the one’s claimed to have been delivered, even though many complaints are placed daily saying customers never received their packages.
USPS - 1.2%
UPS - .8%
FedEx - 2.75%
For myself only, I can tell you I will never ship USPS or FedEx until this problem is resolved. I have never had any problems with UPS delivering anything to my home.

I had no idea they auctioned unclaimed packages off.
I have never had an issue with UPS either. I have issues with USPS and FedEx. Though I have never had anything lost, I have had other issues.
I have had mail delivered incorrectly, in fact, this happens regularly. I get other peoples mail, so I know they are getting mine. I just wonder if I actually end up getting it or do they keep it?
FedEx is notorious around here for delivering the wrong things to the wrong address. It’s not even that it’s a few houses over or a few blocks over. I had them deliver something to me that was for someone 50 miles away. I have also had them deliver things to me and have to call to them before they drive off that it’s the wrong thing and then they bring me the right one.
It’s crazy.
I have a friend who had asked her mailman why he always delivered to the wrong houses. His answer: I don’t look at the numbers, I just put them in the boxes.
Nice.
Perhaps they should make sure they hire people who can and will read first…

I hope that if enough people stand up to be heard, then maybe they will start to do something about that.
I know that since I have had this happen my entire family only us UPS now.
But just keep in mind that even with insurance if their system says it has been delivered, they will not pay off, and if they do you have to go through hell to get your money.
