Mark Sanford the Governor of South Carolina is voicing his disgust in the Bailout Bill
Governor Mark Sanford has done it again. He is voicing his disgust in the way the whole bailout bill is putting all of us at risk. Mr. Sanford has time and time again been very vocal in standing up for the citizens of South Carolina on many issues especially when it comes to those who are taking millions from the citizens in fraudulent ways.
Governor Mark Sanford has said in a letter Friday to the U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson “The federal government, and by extension taxpayer’s, are being gamed. I think it is dangerous over the long run the way that taxpayer’s are being sapped, and this dynamic is playing out in South Carolina.”
It has also come to the attention of Mark Sanford that some banks are using deceit to get their hands on the so called “free money”. Carolina First is one example, by allowing their CEO Mack Whittle to retire early to keep his “golden parachute” before they get any of the bailout money.
Since the US Congress has passed the bailout, they have given away billions without even investigating the companies that are asking for the money. After receiving one of the first bailouts AIG has asked and is getting even more from this fiasco. Have these companies even been investigated completely yet? I can remember the almost one million dollars that they spent on retreat’s and spa treatments for some employee’s with the original money they were given a few months ago. It would appear to me and most people with common sense that you do continue to give people or companies money that just throw it away frivolously.
The bailout is being masked as a possible return of money to the public who are financing this mess. Since I am a tax payer paying this bill, I want several separate entities to do the thorough investigations complete with a full on audit of everything. I think maybe we need more people in the House and Senate like Mark Sanford to make sure we are not being taken advantage of.
Mark Sanford also said, “In the rush to ‘do something’ about the turmoil in the credit markets, Congress has failed miserably in keeping an eye out for the taxpayers and watching for unintended consequences of this bailout,” Gov. Sanford said. “To put it simply, taxpayers are getting gamed. While we continue to believe that the bailout was an incredibly bad idea in the first place, it’s being made worse by loose rules and oversight that are putting taxpayers on the hook for billions more. I’d urge every South Carolinian to make their voices heard to Washington D.C. about the need for real oversight of the bailout going forward.”
I for one will take his advice in hopes that others will as well and contact all of local representatives. If you live in South Carolina you can find your representatives by clicking here.
