We can now celebrate a great New Years Eve with Mark Sanford finally doing the right thing.

We can now celebrate a great New Years Eve with Mark Sanford finally doing the right thing. He took it down to the wire but is actually coming through for the 70,000 South Carolina citizens who have been waiting for it.

The post on Mark Sanford’s website “December 31, 2008 - Saying that he won’t allow the state’s unemployed to be punished for one agency’s utter disdain for accountability, Governor Mark Sanford announced today that he will continue aggressively pushing for transparency at the state Employment Security Commission (ESC) and will apply for a federal unemployment benefits loan.”

The official statement from Roosevelt Halley (Executive Director, SCESC) said “The S.C. Employment Security Commission certainly believes it is not exempt from scrutiny and has nothing to fear from an audit. We are unable to request an audit from the Legislative Audit Council as that must come from the state legislature itself. In fact, the Agency and the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund is audited annually by a qualified accounting firm, which has the added advantage of being both independent and free of political influence. The latest audit showed no questioned costs. Not only that, the Unemployment Insurance division has regularly been honored by the Department of Labor for its timeliness and efficiency.”

We will all see if these two can work together in a more timely fashion in the future. As always one is blaming the other. How do we know who to believe in such a case as this? My thoughts are if SCESC has nothing to hide, why not turn it over to an audit. With the money coming in now, there should be no problem in an audit taking place within a timely fashion.

Pictures of little Jose’ Jr.

Published by Robin Green under Local News Edit This

For those who have been reading my blog, you know we had a small 1 pound 11 ounce baby boy born in the family before Christmas. I now have a picture (not a great one) of little Jose’ Jr.. He is still fighting and gaining a little weight The doctors say he should be able to go home sometime in February if he continues to gain the pounds he needs to.

baby boy

We will post more as we find out. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. This is a precious little gift that we hope will continue to grow.

I am still keeping an eye open at the unemployment. There has been no change as of yet and only 1 day left before the end of the year. Many are praying that things will work.

Still no word on keeping the unemployment going

As you all may know, I am keeping an eye on this issue very closely. There has been nothing said or done to insist that the unemployment continues to flow for those who need it. We have only 2 days left before the unemployment is out of money and will be unable to pay claims for the unemployed. I have written 2 simple letters to Governor Mark Sanford in hopes of getting some answers.

This last email said,

“We are still waiting to see what you plan to do about the unemployment running out. Thousands will suffer if they are not able to get the checks that they deserve. I have been watching this very closely and reporting on it at upstatesctoday.com. Please know that we are coming down to the last few days. Thousands are waiting to hear the news on this very important issue.”

Maybe we can all get his attention by sending a simple email. You can contact him by clicking here. Lots of luck to us all. It will be a sad day when our Government can not pay what it owes to it’s own citizens.

Will this rap group help keep the pants up on the youth?

Published by Robin Green under National News Edit This

I could not help but post this today. After having seen this as a big issue in the school system, I have wondered what could possibly make the youngsters of this generation learn to pull their pants up. Will this rap group help keep the pants up on the youth? I sure hope so.

The saggy pants era is hopefully on it’s way out the door. There have been a number of times I have seen people actually walk right out of their pants by wearing them in this fashion. You would think they would want to keep from showing their rears but that has not seemed to detour the situation. Maybe this rapper can help the youth to do the right thing and pull their pants up.
