A male who has sex with a woman may need to register?
I had to read this one twice to really get the full meaning of pre-filed bill S284 put in for a vote by Senators Alexander, L. Martin and Campbell. The first time reading this bill, I thought it sounded like a good way to make sure each father knows that they had a child that they could be losing all rights to see. After reading it the second time though, it came to light that the male must have already been registered as the father in the database.
What if the male was never notified of a pregnancy? According to this bill, each woman a man has sex with, he needs to register as the father of her child if she becomes pregnant. This would be the only way he would be notified of possible termination of paternal rights in case the child was put up for adoption or something.
Men you better get ready to sign up for every one night stand you may have had in your life. That is if you want to make sure that if a pregnancy resulted, that you do not loss your parental rights.
Personally, I think that if a woman gets pregnant, that she should identify the male that is the father.
